India face formidable England in blockbuster T20 WC semi-final

The stage is set for a compelling rematch between India and England in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup semi-finals, with both teams eager to secure a spot in the coveted final of the prestigious tournament.

Just 19 months ago, England emerged victorious in a one-sided affair, registering a comprehensive 10-wicket win over the Indians in the 2022 edition’s semi-final in Adelaide.

However, former England captain Paul Collingwood believes the scenario could be vastly different this time, particularly due to the resurgent form of India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah.

Bumrah has been in sizzling form throughout India’s campaign, picking up 11 wickets in 6 matches at an economy rate of just 4.08. Collingwood lauded the right-arm pacer’s impact, stating, “In a 120-ball game, having someone like Bumrah with his pace for 24 balls makes a huge difference.

With their well-rounded squad, India stands out, particularly for Jasprit Bumrah’s current form. He’s fit, accurate, fast, and highly skilled. No team seems to have an answer for him.”

The last time these two cricketing giants met in a T20 World Cup semi-final, a dominant opening partnership between Jos Buttler and Alex Hales steered England to a comfortable victory, forcing India to rethink their T20 strategy. However, Collingwood believes the current Indian team, led by the in-form Rohit Sharma, is a different proposition altogether.

“India has looked confident even in tough situations and on difficult pitches in America. Their batters, like Rohit Sharma who played a magnificent innings against Australia, seem to be back in form. Honestly, I can’t see India losing this time. England will need something extraordinary to beat them,” the former England skipper said.

The anticipation is palpable as the two cricketing heavyweights lock horns once again. England aims to become the first men’s team to retain a T20 World Cup, while India is searching for their first World Cup triumph in any format since 2011. With both teams boasting an array of match-winners, the stage is set for a blockbuster semi-final clash that is sure to keep the fans on the edge of their seats.
