India secures dominant win over Ireland in T20 World Cup opener

Playing their first game of the T20 World Cup 2024, India managed to get a rather big win over Ireland with a margin of eight wickets. However, the victory was marred by Rishabh Pant’s sending pain to the pavilion, and the captain out there, Rohit Sharma, also received a blow.

Playing as a team, Ireland only managed to post a total of 96/5, which was a perfect chase for India. Rohit Sharma, however, provided a brilliant strike against a packed middle-over onslaught, scoring 52 off 37 balls. His innings ended abruptly with a potting delivery that struck him on the upper arm by pacer Josh Little.

Pant was hit on the elbow by another delivery from Little, but the wicket-keeper batter did not let it deter him and ended up completing the hunt with a stunning six.

The wicket, prepared at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, was also a concern. Both teams could not get their measure of the wicket and were disappointed by the uneven bounce and slow outfield.

Rohit admitted that one has to be weary about the pitch, However, he was quite pleased with the start provided by impressive Arshdeep Singh, who took two wickets quickly, among others that dented the Pakistani batting lineup.

The win paved the way for an exciting Indian and Pakistani face-off on June 9 at the same arena. Finally, Rohit assured that the team looks to align and said that all players on the field, regardless of the 11th man should work as a team.
