India eyes Super 8s berth against spirited USA.
India aims for a third consecutive win in the ongoing T20 World Cup when they face the United States in New York on Wednesday. Victory would seal their spot in the tournament’s Super 8s stage.
It is the first meeting between the two sides in any format. India tops Group A with maximum points and a healthy net run rate of +1.455. The US, too, has won both matches to remain in contention.
The Americans began by chasing down 195 against Canada before winning a thrilling Super Over contest versus 2009 champions Pakistan in Dallas. Aaron Jones and Andries Gous shone with the bat, while Nosthush Kenjige and Saurabh Netravalkar picked three and two wickets, respectively.
India bounced back from conceding 73/2 to dismiss Pakistan for 147. However, they allowed Ireland to reach close to 100 after reducing them to 50/8.
US skipper Monank Patel and the Indian-origin players in their ranks know the opposition well and could have tactical plans. Netravalkar, in particular, has played first-class cricket for Mumbai.
India will bank on captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli upfront as Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube search for runs. Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah could operate right away to seize early momentum.
Both sides will likely stick to winning combos, with room for experimentation once the knockout stage beckons. India will hope to win convincingly and cement the top spot.
