India achieved a rare Test milestone after its victory over Bangladesh.
India scripted history by recording more Test wins than losses for the first time after defeating Bangladesh in the first match of the series in Chennai.
Chasing an improbable 374, Bangladesh were all out for 282 as Ravichandran Ashwin picked 6 wickets in the final innings to guide India to a 280-run win.
This was the host’s 179th victory in 580 Tests compared to 178 losses so far. It brought an end to India’s wait of 92 years for a positive win-loss record in the longest format.
Ashwin’s all-round exploits of 113 and 6/61 were instrumental in sealing the win at his home ground. He also became the leading wicket-taker for India in the fourth innings.
Wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant matched MS Dhoni‘s record of most centuries by an Indian with his unbeaten knock of 106.
Jasprit Bumrah further cemented his status as an all-format great, reaching 400 international wickets in just 227 innings across formats.
The win propelled India to fourth rank on the list of teams with the most Test wins surpassing Pakistan and South Africa. However, the road ahead remains challenging in the two-match series as Bangladesh seeks a comeback.
