Dhruv Jurel was appointed as vice-captain whereas Nitish Kumar Reddy and Shardul Thakur were also included in the team. Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was unable to play IPL 2025 due to injury, and Sarfaraz Khan were also included.
Nair, who registered a triple century against England in Chennai in December 2016, registered 863 runs at 53.93 in Vidarbha’s Ranji Trophy-winning 2024/25 season and emerged as the fourth-highest run-getter of the tournament.
He also played for Northamptonshire in the Division 1 County Championships in the previous two years – In 14 innings, he had scored 736 runs with an average of 56.61, with a record of scoring two centuries and a highest score of 202 not out.
Both Nair and Easwaran’s performances will be of immense interest to the Indian team management as well as the Ajit Agarkar-headed selection panel, with the intent of replacing the massive gaps in the batting lineup following the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
The other Test players in India ‘A’ team are Dhruv Jurel, who is made the vice-captain of the side, along with Yashasvi Jaiswal, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Shardul Thakur, Ishan Kishan, Mukesh Kumar, Akash Deep, Harshit Rana, and Sarfaraz Khan, who was unavailable after suffering a rib injury during the tour of Australia in 2024/25.
Undisclosed players such as Manav Suthar, Tanush Kotian, Anshul Kamboj, Tushar Deshpande, and Harsh Dubey – top wicket-taker and Player of the 2024/25 Ranji Trophy – also get their spots. Khaleel Ahmed and Ruturaj Gaikwad, who have represented India in white-ball matches, are also part of the England tour party.
