Jasprit Bumrah faces racial slur; fans recall ‘Monkey gate’ scandal

Isa Guha was in a massive controversy as she found herself at the center during commentary with a racially insulting remark regarding Jasprit Bumrah. Former England Women’s Cricket team star Isa Guha was at the epicenter of a massive row after she found herself into a racial remark about commentary during Day 2 of the third Test match encounter against Australia on Sunday.

In this post-Bumrah dismissal, Nathan McSweeney and Usman Khawaja, Australian former legendary pacer Brett Lee, were left impressed with bowling by Bumrah, who thereafter shared his thoughts: “Bumrah, today: five overs, 2-4. So that’s the tone, and that’s what you want from the ex-skipper,” Lee said on FOX Cricket. Guha called Bumrah the “Most Valuable Primate” – a comment that led to a huge row and drew her much flak from the fans.

The incident soon went viral on social media, and many fans drew comparisons to the infamous ‘Monkeygate” scandal in 2008 when Andrew Symonds accused Harbhajan Singh of calling him a “monkey.”

Meanwhile, bowling coach Morne Morkel Sunday conceded that Indian bowlers could not execute their plans against the Australian century-maker Travis Head and exhorted them to tidy up their act with the old ball between overs 50 and 80.

Head and fellow centurion Steve Smith assisted the hosts to pound out 171 runs in 31 overs in the third session on the second day of the third Test here, building on a wicketless post-lunch spell.
