India eye fresh pace options as Bumrah may be rested for Bangladesh Tests.
The Indian team management is looking to introduce new fast-bowling variations for the Bangladesh Tests in September. Ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah could be rested to keep him fresh for the marquee Australia tour.
As per reports, left-arm options like Arshdeep Singh and Khaleel Ahmed are top contenders. The T20 WC Purple Cap winner Arshdeep in particular may get his maiden Test call-up given his talent across formats.
The idea behind resting Bumrah is to have him fully charged for the crucial four-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy in November-December. He will be a priority for the New Zealand home games preceding it.
An anonymous BCCI source stated fitness will be paramount while deciding Bumrah’s availability for Bangladesh. The team wants him at peak fitness for the stern Australian examinations.
Former coach Rahul Dravid had pushed for Arshdeep’s red-ball preparation last year through County cricket. The team looks to test new bowling resources and return to winning momentum in the WTC cycle.
