India vs England, 2025: Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah will likely be rested for the white-ball series against England. India will play five ODIs and three T20Is against a visiting England side from January 22 to February 9.
According to India Today sources, the senior selection committee will rest Jasprit Bumrah for the New Year’s home white-ball series against England. The star pacer, nominated for the 2024 ICC Cricketer of the Year award, has been given a breather before the much-anticipated Champions Trophy.
India is slated to host England in a five-match T20I series and a three-match ODI series from 22 January to 12 February. The ODI series will conclude just seven days before the Champions Trophy starting date.
Jasprit Bumrah has spearheaded India’s fast bowling arsenal during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series in Australia. The pacer has borne the brunt of an inexperienced fast-bowling lineup while Mohammed Shami was kept out of the series because of injuries.
Bumrah bowled 53.2 overs – the most in a single Test in his career – during India’s 184-run defeat in Melbourne. Over four Tests, he has bowled 141.2 overs, the highest workload for any bowler from either side in the series so far.
Bumrah will be one of the key players who will make all the difference in India’s fortunes during the New Year’s Test in Sydney. He should play most of the bowling workload in the series decider. Bumrah would have played 10 Tests in four months by the end of the Sydney Test.
