Jasprit Bumrah, toward the fag end of India’s Australian tour, suffered back spasms that saw him skip bowling in the second innings of the fifth Test in Sydney. To prepare Bumrah and have him fit and raring to go by the time the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy roars into action in February-March, the BCCI may consider resting him for most of the upcoming white-ball series at home against England. A report in the news agency PTI said the extent of Bumrah’s injury is unknown, and a call on his participation will be taken accordingly.
A new injury has led to a refocusing on the workload of Bumrah and India’s excessive dependence on the fast bowler. The 30-year-old delivered 151.2 overs during the just-concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The five Test matches saw Bumrah being the highest wicket-taker, taking away 32 scalps at 13.06. He grabbed three five-fers in that process.
The report further clarifies that if Bumrah has sustained a Grade 1 injury, he will require at least two to three weeks of recovery before making a competitive return. If it’s a Grade 2 injury, rehabilitation could extend up to six weeks, but if it’s Grade 3, it will keep him out of action for three months and require rehab programs.
