Joe Root sets sights on Sachin tendulkar’s test record

Joe Root: England’s Test cricket batting phenomenon is in wonderful form today. He scored two hundred plus in the recent match against Sri Lanka during the second Test of the tri-series. Such great showings have taken Root ahead of Cook to be the England player with the most hundreds in Test cricket; he now has 34 to his tally, just one more than the retired Cook.

At the age of 33, Root has scored more than 12,000 runs in Test cricket, which shows him as a closer contender to the all-time leading scorer Sachin Tendulkar of India, who has 15921 runs. In a recent interaction, when Root was asked about the possibility of scoring more runs than Tendulkar, former England captain Michael Vaughan said, “Yes, he can. ”

Vaughan realized that to achieve this feat, Root was about 3,500 runs behind Tendulkar and had three years to complete it. He also affirmed Root’s passion for the game and a fresh outlook on his performance, having left the captaincy position. Vaughan added that he would not be surprised if the fellow fails to achieve his goal:

Legendary Australian wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist also chimed in the discussion, and while admitting that there may be nobody more hungry for runs than Root currently, he was not sure about Root’s long-term goal.

Gilchrist commented ‘He’s clearly pretty hungry at the moment, but when will his appetite slow down?’ At the moment, the Australian Cricket Board might have thought that the Pakistan Cricket Board was right in asking Inzamam for his date with retirement, saying that clarity might come after the Ashes series next year. The fans will likely stay focused on Root and rise to higher stages as Root aims to write his name in the history books.
