Virat Kohli shattered several records as India beat Australia to qualify for the final of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025. India’s sole Virat Kohli shattered several records on his way to making 84 runs from 98 balls in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final against Australia at the Dubai International Stadium on Tuesday.
This innings led India to beat Australia by four wickets to reach the final of the eight-team tournament. Depending on the result of tomorrow’s second semi-final, they will play either New Zealand or South Africa. Kohli comfortably sealed the run-chase of 265 by having a proper pace throughout the game. Kohli was expected to score heavily, but looking to play one big shot, Kohli gave his wicket away to Adam Zampa.
Right-hander Kohli got good support from Shreyas Iyer (45) and KL Rahul (42*) while India chased the total with 11 balls still left. Due to this victory, India came to their third consecutive Champions Trophy final.
Hardik Pandya also came in with a cameo of 28 runs from 24 deliveries to ease the pressure at a time when the chase had appeared to become difficult. Hardik consumed some deliveries, and the Dubai crowd became apprehensive slightly, but when a few butterflies were beginning to emerge, two successive sixes against Adam Zampa sealed the fate of the match.
Kohli, 36, crossed the 8000-run mark in ODI run-chases. He reached the milestone in 159 innings and is now the second batsman in the history of the sport to have over this number of runs while chasing in the 50-over game.
Sachin Tendulkar tops the list for most runs in chases as the Master Blaster has 8720 runs under his belt in 232 innings. Rohit Sharma is third on the list with 6115 runs. Kohli is quickest to 8000 runs while chasing, with a huge difference over Tendulkar.
