Kumble backs Arshdeep for T20 WC and cites left-arm variation.
Former Indian spinner Anil Kumble has backed pacer Arshdeep Singh’s potential to strengthen the country’s bowling attack at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Arshdeep was adjudged player of the match against the USA for his four-wicket haul that helped skittle them out for 110. Impressed with his last-over defense against Pakistan, Kumble said the left-armer’s variation puts him ahead of Siraj.
“The way he (Arshdeep) bowled that last over against Pakistan and in different areas puts him above Siraj. His left-arm pace also provides extra variety if India opts for two seamers plus Hardik,” Kumble told ESPNcricinfo.
Chasing 111, India lost early wickets before a 72-run stand between Suryakumar and Shivam Dube sealed a victory. Arshdeep was rewarded for his figures.
Rohit opted to field, but Nitish and Steven’s knocks took the USA to 110. Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep were the pick of India’s attack, while Axar chipped in.
