Smriti Mandhana starred with the bat again as her well-crafted half-century guided RCB to a crucial win over MAG on Wednesday. Chasing 170 for victory, Mandhana scored an impressive 57 to help her team cross the line with two balls to spare, consolidating their position in the top four.
The elegant left-hander held the chase together with prudent batting. She found the gaps effortlessly through covers and backward of point. Spin or seam, Mandhana rotated strikes fluently to keep the scoring rate steady.
After the early loss of the captain, her 55-run stand with Richardson (28) helped her regain footing. Once Richardson fell, Kerr (34*) lent support as RCB inched closer.
The required run rate crept up, but Mandhana held her nerve expertly. With 20 needed off the final 12 balls, she finished the job in style with her sixth boundary. Her match-winning contribution was recognized with yet another Player of the Match award.
Half-centuries from Rodrigues (71) and Bates (64) had earlier powered MAG to a solid 169/3. Nevertheless, Mandhana’s guidance helped RCB prevail and tighten their grip on a playoff spot.
With momentum on their side and Mandhana in an inspired touch, RCB will harbor strong hopes of lifting the trophy come finals week.
