Misbah’s call to Babar: unleash aggression for T20 World Cup success

Misbah stresses need for Babar to unleash attacking game.

Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq believes current skipper Babar Azam must embrace a more aggressive batting mindset in T20 cricket. In an interview with Star Sports, the veteran cricketer acknowledged Babar’s skill at anchoring innings but said he must be ready to shift gears based on situation.

“We saw Babar improve his strike rate against Ireland. Hopefully he can do that for the team,” said Misbah, referring to his 42-ball 75.

While praising Babar’s talent, Misbah emphasized the need for him to bat at 160-170 or even 200 strike rate if the team demands it.

In high-scoring T20 games, chasing 200 needs strike rates more than 130-140, added the 162-match T20I veteran.

Misbah understands the evolving nature of cricket’s shortest format. He advises Babar to seamlessly switch between anchor and aggressor’s role depending on need.

As Pakistan captain at World Cup, Babar’s attacking intent from the start could spur his team. But he will be scrutinized for his strike rate, feels Misbah.

However, the former captain believes top players use criticism as motivation. The cricketing world awaits Babar’s response as he aims for glory in Australia.
