MS Dhoni dismisses retirement rumors ahead of IPL 2025

Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni recently shut the retirement rumors down in an interview on a podcast, reassuring anxious fans of his availability for the Indian Premier League (IPL). Speculations grew following Dhoni’s parents spotted at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on April 5, and the fans caught a glimpse of a moment when his wife Sakshi appeared to tell their daughter Ziva that it was “last match.”

In a candid interview with Raj Shamani, Dhoni put aside concerns from the fans that he is not yet done retiring his boots. He explained that he is going to check his fitness in the next eight months and let his body be the judge if he could continue to play at the age of 44. “I take it one year at a time,” he averred. “By the time the IPL 2025 is over, I will be 44, and I’ll have 10 months to decide. It’s my body which will decide.”

Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming also weighed in on the retirement topic after the team’s match against Delhi Capitals. Fleming noted he no longer discusses Dhoni’s future with him, saying, “I have no idea. I’m just enjoying working with him still. He is still going strong.”

Earlier, while attending a function before IPL 2025, Dhoni had expressed that he wished to have fun playing the game for as long as possible. “I’ve retired since 2019, so it will be quite some time. What I want is to enjoy cricket for whatever few years I can still play,” he had stated. Reflecting on his childhood, he had mentioned how much he loved to play sports after school, and how he wishes to bring the same innocence back to the game.

As IPL 2025 continues, fans are encouraged to keep themselves updated with match schedules, player squads, live scores, and the current standings of each team, i.e., CSK, MI, RCB, KKR, SRH, LSG, DC, GT, PBKS, and RR, as well as Orange Cap and Purple Cap hopefuls.
