The Mumbai Indians met another unwanted blow in another defeat in the IPL 2024 at home, as the Kolkata Knight Riders took 24 runs at Wankhede Stadium. Pursuing the quite under-par target set for the team in our series of 170 runs suffered regular setbacks as the team kept losing wickets. The whole team was bowled out in 18.5 overs for 145 runs.
Suryakumar Yadav´s 56 runs off 35 balls was an example that this was close and could add to Mumbai´s hopes; but his milestone in the 16th over turned the game around to Kolkata´s side. This triumph didn’t only showcase Kolkata’s supremacy but also their consistency. They turned out to be unbeatable throughout the season with 7 wins in 10 matches, including a Wankhede victory after a 12-year-long wait.
Mumbai Indians slip down to their ninth position in the ten squads starting this season, as they have not had a good season and have lost eight out of the eleven matches they have played so far. At the same time, Kolkata Knight Riders reached the 2nd position with a comfortable lead, securing a playoff spot for themselves. Mitchell Starc took 4 wickets and was kept out by a diligent bowling set-up, spending Mumbai’s hitting power tightly.
Previously flighted Kolkata came through the difficult patch but returned to the game as Iyer and Pandey exchanged fifty-career runs ( 70 and 42, respectively ). Jasprit Bumrah and Nuwan Thushara, having contributed three wickets each for Mumbai, the Indo-Sri Lanka all-rounder trio had paved the way for Mumbai’s victory. The Captain of Mumbai Indians, Hardik Pandya, lamented their inability to produce a successive run and gave the team permission to dissect the problem.
