Nathan Lyon sees border-Gavaskar as key to team’s revival

Lyon admits that the Australian cricket team is not great currently, but it is moving on the path of achieving greatness. Inherently, he views an Australian win against India in the forthcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy as a step on that continuum. Australia last won the BGT trophy against India back in the 2014-15 season and has since been defeated by the Asian giants for four series on the trot.

Starring Kohli as captain, India scripted history by emerging as the first team from Asia to triumph in a Test series in Australia during the period between 2018/19 and another repeat in 2020/21. For Lyon, who is widely regarded as one of the more potent off-spinners in the current generation of spin bowlers, the failure to claim a Test series against India is arguably his chief regret in the past decade.

On this, Lyon quipped: “It is 10 years of the unfinished business. I know that I am extremely hungry to turn the situation around. ” Since Australia clinched the BGT in 2014-15, they have been outplayed in the subsequent matches.

From the reflective process, Lyon claimed that both winning and losing post-series experiences were valuable. He said in an interview, I am thinking a lot of series and where we could have done better.

With 530 wickets from 129 Tests at the age of 36, Lyon pointed out that the team is working hard to come up with new tactics in order to move to the next level in their pursuit of success. “I think we are a different team from what we were a couple of years back, and yes, we are in that process,” said the goalkeeper.
