NDTV survey predicts top choices for Indian T20 World Cup squad.
With the Indian T20 World Cup squad set to be finalized imminently, NDTV conducted a mini survey to gauge early favorites for selection. Captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are certainties at the top, while youngsters Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill emerge as the consensus openers.
Jaiswal has been in immense form this IPL season, accumulating 225 runs including a ton at a strike rate over 150. Gill, too, has shown sublime touch, notching 304 at 146. Their left-right combination gives added balance.
Suryakumar Yadav is a certainty in the middle order based on his prolific international exploits of late. Despite lacking bowling numbers, all-rounder Shivam Dube makes the cut owing to his power-hitting abilities on the left side.
Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja are strong contenders for the spin-bowling all-rounder slots. They provide the side with lower-order batting nous alongside variety with the ball in hand.
Pandya’s value stems from his rare fast-bowling skills among Indian all-rounders. Jadeja lends experience and a third spin option to the attack.
While spots in the fast-bowling department remain undecided, the survey indicated that the above names are most frequently considered for Rohit’s title-defending outfit. Selectors will have their tasks cut out in finalizing balances.
