PCB confirms Mohsin Naqvi remains chairman amid resignation rumors

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has categorically rejected reports of Chairman Mohsin Naqvi’s resignation following his recent elevation as President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).

Labelling the reports as ‘baseless,’ the PCB stated that Naqvi has yet to submit his resignation in front of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, patron-in-chief of the board. Gossip had been circulating within cricket circles since Pakistan’s abysmal shows in New Zealand, wherein the team had lost the T20I series 1-4 and got whitewashed 0-3 in the ODIs, along with heaping the tragedy of a woeful Champions Trophy season.

Unconfirmed reports had suggested that former PCB chief Najam Sethi might be considered as Naqvi’s successor. However, a PCB official refuted these claims, stating, “There is no truth to the reports about Mr. Naqvi’s resignation. He continues to perform his duties as PCB chairman and remains fully committed to the development of Pakistan cricket.”

Naqvi, in addition to serving as the Pakistan interior minister, became the first Pakistani since 2008 to assume this post when he was elected unopposed president of ACC last month. While being asked about managing dual roles, the PCB reiterated that it was “not unprecedented” and might be done absolutely well by continuing effective time management.

It is a point of pride for Pakistan that our representative is leading the ACC. Mohsin Naqvi has no intention of quitting the PCB at this point,” the statement further said.
