Rahul Dravid reflects on Passionate celebration after T20 world cup win

Rahul Dravid, one of the great batsmen of his generation, stepped down as the head coach of the Indian team at the end of this year’s T20I World Cup, with the side having had a successful tournament.

Usually a man of composure, Dravid ushered in his ‘home-produced’ emotional side as he danced around with the newly won World Cup trophy. The lewd images came in the form of pictures and clips of the former captain’s celebration and were shared thousands of times on social media, India players included.

To this, Dravid claimed that he was not expecting that sort of celebration but said he was just’really happy’ for the team and the support staff that were given the award for the much unnoticeable work they had been putting in behind the scenes.

“It just comes out. You do not plan these things,” the Indian head coach mentioned during his interaction with Star Sports. “You do not think about such things.

Most times, as a coach, one does not allow himself to feel what he is feeling. I tried to control my joy and wear the face of a coach.

I think I was as happy for the team as the team is happy for itself right now. I was happy for all the boys, for the support staff, and for so many people who worked with us.”

Dravid had had a taste of success, failure, and the sheer agony of the win being so close-yet-so-far during his brief stint as the team’s head when it was a lling muster during the World Test Championship in 2023 and the 2023 World Cup.

“Not only in that tournament. I had been around for two and a half to three years. And we had come close a number of times: in specific, according to Dravid, the team aims to “make the semi-finals of the last T20 world cup to be played in Australia [in 2022], the finals of the WTC [World Test Championship], and the 50-over world cup to be held in India.”.
