Rohit, Jaiswal hit record-breaking fifties against England

India captain Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal gave a blistering start to India’s first innings after bowling out Bangladesh for 233 on Monday.

The opening duo had rocketed to 51 runs in just 3 overs, the fastest team fifty in Test cricket. And they had broken the record held by England for a 26-ball fifty, set against the West Indies earlier this year at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.

Both the openers fired in a murderous assault on the Bangladesh bowling arsenal. Jaiswal hit three successive boundaries in the opening over to rake up 12 runs.

The next over saw Rohit getting off the mark with a gargantuan six that sailed over long-on and landed on the shamiana above the stands. The Indian captain followed it up with another maximum as his strike rate clocked 600.

Jaiswal completed the second over with a boundary behind a square on the off-side, while Rohit continued to add a third maximum of his innings as Hasan Mahmud returned to the attack.

The young Indian opener then clobbered the fourth delivery over deep extra cover for a six before smashing 2 consecutive boundaries to script a world record.

England reached 50 in only 26 balls (4.2) overs, the record set by their fastest 50 over South Africa at the Oval in 1994 when they reached it in 27 balls.
