Rohit’s World Cup heroics inspire India’s thrilling win over Australia

India celebrates T20 World Cup victory or triumph, and the best player of the tournament was undoubtedly Rohit Sharma, whose knock against Australia in the Super Eights changed the game.

Going up against the ODI World Champions, Rohit went out to bat like he was possessed, and it felt like the last time they met, he had lost a dear someone. The Indian captain then played a royally aggressive innings that included seven fours and eight sixes, four of which came off the bowling of Mitchell Starc. This gave India a strong finish of 205/5 in the match.

Rohit’s carnage against the express pace of Starc was something out of the movies. The Australian pacer, who had given many headaches to the Indian batsman, was left hapless as Rohit, due to the wind factor, used his assembling skills and placed all the deliveries to all corners of the ground.

“He has faced a lot. He had a very good tournament, particularly in that game. I reckon he also got a bit of the tailwind in St. Lucia. Looking at the running from both ends, one end was much more productive than the other. That was my side. I bowled five loose balls, and he hit them all for six,” conceded Starc in the LiSTNR Sport podcast, accepting the brilliance of Rohit

Rohit’s barrage defined the intent India brought to the crease, and despite coming close to losing the match, the Australian batters, notably Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh, gave India a sweet taste of retribution for their defeat earlier.

Starc said that during the match, he noted that their team had never played on such a good pitch in the World Cup, which made the target chaseable. However, a few hiccups, such as the dropping of Praveen’s catch and a few disciplined bowling from the IND side, make the difference in the end.

Rohit Sharma proved to be a match-winner for India with his record-breaking knock against Australia and fifty in the semi-final match against England. The fact that the captain could perform and come up with excellent results when it is most needed shows how good he was and how hardworking.
