Sachin Tendulkar honored as MCC’s latest member

It is against this background that the Melbourne Cricket Club conferred honorary membership on the legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, widely regarded as arguably the most successful batsman in the world with a record number of runs and 100 international centuries to his credit, on December 27. Now, Tendulkar has come to be ranked in the rare company of some of its members. This announcement came on the same day as the much-anticipated Boxing Day Test match between India and Australia, with the five-match series currently tied at 1-1.

The MCC announced this through the following post on X: “An icon honoured. The MCC is delighted to announce that former Indian captain @sachin_rt has accepted an Honorary Cricket Membership, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the game.”

The MCC is one of the oldest sporting clubs in Australia and was established in 1838. It now plays an important role in running one of the most famous cricket grounds in the world, the MCG. This club has a proud history of honoring the best of cricket, making it an important institution within the sport.

Interestingly, Tendulkar has had good tours to Australia, with a century in every series except the 2011-12 series. He has scored 449 runs at the MCG from five Tests at an average of 44.90 and a strike rate of 58.69, with one century and three fifties.

With over a two-decade career and upwards of 33,000 international runs, Tendulkar remains one of the most respected figures in cricket, and his records are a tough challenge to match for future generations.
