Shan Masood’s future is uncertain as Pakistan mulls captaincy changes.
Pakistan captain Shan Masood is reportedly set to be removed from Test leadership duties after the England series.
Despite a fighting 151 in Pakistan’s first innings, Masood has failed to inspire victory as a full-time skipper. His team fell to a series-opening defeat following a 317-run Brook assault and Root double hundred.
As per local media reports, the PCB is actively considering sacking Masood due to an undefeated home record since assuming charge. Potential successors being considered include Saud Shakeel, Mohammad Rizwan, and Salman Ali Agha.
A chastened Masood conceded England found ways to win and Pakistan must improve on adapting to varying conditions. However, he did not attribute the loss to a weak mentality within his squad.
The captain felt both sides had to contend with the same Multan pitch but Pakistan failed to learn from previous mistakes of not putting up substantial totals or finding ways to take 20 wickets.
With question marks lingering over strategy and consistency levels, change appears imminent at the top unless Masood can turn things around in the remaining Tests. His leadership position appears to be hanging by a thread.
