There were reports ofrift between Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill and Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya. Twitter was full of news on Friday with everybody saying that there is a rift between Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill and Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya.
GT was up against MI in the Eliminator match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, and a couple of uncomfortable moments between Gill and Hardik led to speculation. The first of these was a handshake refusal. Hardik had outstretched his hand for a handshake after the toss but Gill didn’t pick up on it. Many people online believed that Gill had done it intentionally.
The second point of discussion was when Gill was given out LBW and Hardik’s celebration was somewhat strange. He charged through the leg of Gill and even glared at the batter as he yelled after being given out. The video went viral on social media.
As word began circulating regarding a rift between the two players, Gill himself spoke out on social media to address the rumours. Posting his photo with Hardik on Instagram Story, he captioned, “Nothing but love. (Don’t believe everything you see on the internet).” He also tagged Hardik.
Mumbai Indians, the giant killers, overcame the butterflies on the big stage better to beat Gujarat Titans by 20 runs in an IPL 2025 Eliminator high-scoring match despite a classy performance by Sai Sudharsan at Mullanpur on Friday.
Rohit Sharma (81 off 50) hung in there on his luck to play a good knock following Jonny Bairstow’s (47 off 22) instant impact on his Mumbai Indians debut to take them to an ominous 228 five in 20 overs.
Titans, who were sloppy in the field and with the ball, managed to take the game to the wire with breathtaking batting by Sudharsan (80 off 49) before they faltered at 208 for six to bow out of the tournament.
Ultimately, it was Mumbai Indians who won the crucial moments to progress in the tournament. The win saw them reach Qualifier 2 in Ahmedabad on Sunday when they face Punjab Kings.
