Ganguly weighs in on Pant’s World Cup selection chances ahead of DC-MI clash.
With Rishabh Pant’s Delhi Capitals set to take on Mumbai Indians in their next IPL match, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has shared his views on the wicketkeeper-batter’s prospects of making India’s T20 World Cup squad.
Pant has battled fitness concerns after returning to competitive cricket following a car crash last year, but recent knocks of 52 and 44 against CSK and KKR, respectively, have boosted his form.
As Delhi Capitals’ director of cricket, Ganguly stated that while Pant looks fully fit currently, a few more matches will clarify his selection. The final decision ultimately rests with the national selectors based on their choice.
Ganguly praised Pant’s improved wicketkeeping and batting, terming his form as fantastic. However, he wants to watch the player over the coming week before commenting on national selection.
On Delhi’s campaign, Ganguly analyzed that the bowling unit has fared well behind Mukesh Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed and Ishant Sharma. However, an extra specialist batsman could strengthen the middle order.
The former captain expressed satisfaction with youngsters like Prithvi Shaw finding form alongside domestic talents Rishabh Pant and Abhishek Porel. Delhi will hope for a change in fortunes against Mumbai on Sunday.
