South Africa edge past England in Tight T20 World Cup clash

Eagles tasted victory by only 7 runs against the English men’s team in the T20 World Cup Super Eight match. These are the initial overs of a match where South African opener Quinton de Kock displayed an outstanding performance.

De Kock, who hit 22 and 38-ball 65 with 4 sixes and 4 fours, paved the way for a total South Asian 163/6. However, some of England’s top-order batsmen could not give the same kind of furious power hitting that De Kock had done throughout the Super Over.

As per England captain Jos Buttler, Quinny’s playing at the top put a lot of pressure upon the team:

“Yeah, he played some great shots, and we were not able to respond to that.”

De Kock was especially aggressive in the first six overs as South Africa sprinted to a healthy 63 for no loss.

“But when it came to the better and more hostile overs in the power play today, it was the lower order and de Kock who took that on and played a few shots,”

Buttler said.

And though England struck back well by stabilizing the match through Harry Brook (53) and Liam Livingstone (33), it was still not enough as they could only make 156 for 6 in the 20 overs they were given.

De Kock attributed this to experience, having played many times at this ground and playing in the Caribbean Premier League. He elaborated,

“I have played many day T20s in cricket in the West Indies, and they have known that effectively that is the time when especially they have to make the most of scoring runs, it was the time when scoring was at its easiest.”

The win puts them in a better standing on the Super Eight. However England, on the other hand, would have to enforce themselves to stay in the semifinals mode.
