Suryakumar Yadav tipped for India’s T20I captaincy

India’s T20I skipper change had many twists as the BCCI stepped into the new phase after Rohit Sharma. According to the latest news circulating in the media, Suryakumar Yadav is likely to be Rohit’s replacement on the T20I team as he has been declared the new captain.

The process of reaching a conclusion has been termed a bipartite decision, in which three BCCI officials, newly appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir, and Ajit Agarkar’s selection committee played pivotal roles. Gambhir has done right by informing the management that he would like to continue with a captain who is fit and does not complain of much fatigue.

Suryakumar Yadav was the hot favourite for the job ahead of Hardik Pandya, the vice-captain during the T20 World Cup victory. Still, doubts over his injury-prone nature have given the edge to Yadav. Bumrah and P Pant, too, are reported to have publicly preferred Suryakumar during an inter-call with BCCI.

Still, all eyes are set on Suryakumar for the captaincy role, but he has limited prior experience in captaincy, especially for India and the IPL. Thursday’s Selection meeting will be the turning point in naming the Indian T20I team captain of the future.
