Mumbai Indians’ batsman Suryakumar Yadav played a match-winning innings against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, guiding his team to a resounding seven-wicket victory. Yadav’s unbeaten knock of 102 runs from just 51 balls, at a staggering strike rate 200, included 12 fours and 6 sixes, captivating the crowd at the Wankhede Stadium.
After the game, Yadav reflected on his remarkable performance, assuring fans that there were no concerns about his fitness. Having fielded for 20 overs and batted for 18 overs, he stated,
“I have done this after a long time. I fielded for 20 overs and batted for 18 overs, only tired (nothing else to worry about). I feel it was the need of the hour for me. When the ball stopped seaming, I played all my shots that I practice in the nets.”
Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to field first. SRH struggled to build partnerships, losing wickets at regular intervals. However, Travis Head’s 48 off 30 balls and skipper Pat Cummins’ unbeaten 35 off 17 balls propelled SRH to 173/8 in their allotted 20 overs.
In the chase, Mumbai Indians faced early setbacks, but Yadav’s heroics, supported by Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 37, turned the tide in their favor. They achieved victory with 16 balls to spare, marking a remarkable comeback.
Yadav’s outstanding performance earned him the “Player of the Match” award. Mumbai Indians currently occupy the ninth position in the IPL standings with four wins and eight losses, accumulating eight points, while Sunrisers Hyderabad sit in fourth place with six wins, five losses, and a total of 12 points.
