Suryakumar’s catch in T20 World Cup final sparks controversy

Another fabulous catch by India’s Suryakumar Yadav in the last over of the T20 World Cup final in 2024 has initiated a new round of discussions among the fans. The practice of grasping the curb has been a cause of many malcontents and discussions on whether the location of the boundary cushion in a certain position favored the Indian side.

The last over was to be bowled, and South Africa required 16 runs to win. They were at crease David Miller. Pant, the southpaw, overbalances a wide full toss by Hardik Pandya. As much as Suryakumar Yadav tries to take the catch over the boundary, he successfully does the same, though just making it over the rope.

However, some social media users have accused the team of deliberately placing the boundary cushion outside during the second innings of the cricket match. This argument, however, has been discredited because the boundary cushion was outside the line even during the Indian innings, which is the practice before the commencement of an innings, depending on the pitch chosen.

In an interview with PTI, Suryakumar Yadav said he was fortunate to be in that moment and contribute something special to the country. However, when asked how he felt to be part of such a moment and be able to do something special for the country, he said, “I am just grateful to be in that moment…god’s plan it was. ”

The marvelous arrogant catch is regarded as similar to the outstanding one by Kapil Dev in the 1983 World Cup final against the colossal West Indies. The Indian captain ran sideways from the mid-on position to take a magnificent catch over his head with his right hand from a top-edged shot by Viv Richards.

While the controversy regarding the catch is being discussed, cricket fans expect to see Suryakumar Yadav’s next chapter, how he will build his career, and his love for the sport.
