United States stun Bangladesh ahead of T20 World Cup.
International cricket received a huge boost in the USA after the national team defeated Bangladesh in a T20 warmup fixture on Tuesday. Chasing 154, the USA were powered to victory by veteran Kiwi cricketer Corey Anderson and former India junior Harmeet Singh.
Anderson, who has represented New Zealand in Tests and ODIs, remained unbeaten on 34, guiding his team across the line with 3 balls to spare along with Singh (33*). Singh clobbered 3 sixes as the duo stitched together a match-winning 62-run stand.
Bangladesh boasted big names like Shakib Al Hasan, Liton Das and Mustafizur Rahman but fell short against the spirited USA campaign led by captain Monank Patel. This was USA’s second T20 win over a Test nation after Ireland in 2021.
While the gulf in quality with other teams means qualifications beyond the group stage are unlikely, the victory has provided a shot in the arm.
The USA prepares to kickstart its T20 World Cup journey by facing Canada in Dallas on June 1st. Fixtures against powerhouses Pakistan and India follow before the USA takes on Ireland in the final group match.
Bangladesh finds itself in the tough ‘Group of Death,’ but the shock loss to the USA will serve as a wake-up call ahead of the mega event, where they seek to strengthen their claims as a rising white-ball force.
