Former Pakistan cricketer Wasim Akram believes Team India might not travel to his country for the ICC Champions Trophy next year.
The Champions Trophy will feature two groups of four teams: Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and South Africa.
“I think from what I’m reading, there are positive vibes from the Indian government and the BCCI. I also read somewhere they might play all their games in Lahore.
They will most probably come to Lahore and travel back the same night. I am all for it as long as India is comfortable,” Akram said, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
He said players such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Hardik Pandya would be the most popular. “I can promise you, they’ll be looked after incredibly well.
Indian cricketers like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Suryakumar Yadav have fans in Pakistan. Young cricket fans adore them,” said the former seamer.
The speedster signed off, saying that if India came to Pakistan, it would be a godsend for cricket.
“People-to-people contact is essential in these times. In the social media age, there’s so much unnecessary negativity in the world, and I think if India comes, it will be great for cricket and Pakistan, too,” the 58-year-old said.
