In one of the worst situations, West Indies legends Sir Vivian Richards and Carl Hooper have come down heavily on some revelations made by legendary batsman Brian Lara in his new book ‘LARA: The England Chronicles.’
Lara’s book caused much controversy once he claimed that Richards, the Wes Indies captain, used to make him cry ‘every three weeks’ and Hooper at the hands of Richards’ aggression once a week.
On this score, however, Hooper and Richards have firmly denied these allegations in a joint statement in which they proceed to label them “gross misrepresentations,” which distort the reality of their relationship, and “vicious,” which is charged with impugning their characters unjustly.
The statement flatly rejects Lara’s accusations, saying that Richards never was rude, ill-mannered, or intended to intimidate her. However, it presents him as an ‘inspiring motivator’ who was supportive of Hooper. They had a working relationship spanning nearly 40 years marked by ‘bromance’ and reciprocity.
Lara has been called to go public and correct the makers of the film Hooper and Richards, apologize for the same, and retract whatever she said. A conflict of this nature that incorporates three outstanding icons of West Indies cricket is expected to profoundly affect their friendly and previous related associations.
