Yograj Singh’s shocking revelations about Kapil Dev and Dhoni

Yograj Singh is the father of former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh. In a recent interview with “Unfiltered with Samdish,” the former cricketer made some shocking revelations. Yograj shockingly revealed that once he intended to harm cricket legend Kapil Dev because he was dropped from the team. He remembered how he had gone to Dev’s house with a pistol, intending to take revenge. It did not materialize, though, as Kapil came out with his mother, and Yograj changed his mind.

In a fervent speech, Yograj nursed intense bitterness toward Kapil Dev: “I told him, ‘I wanted to put a bullet through your head, but I refrained because of your pious mother standing there.'” Yograj recalled his aggressive confrontation with Kapil, during which he accused Kapil of being the reason for losing a friend and mourned the politics that kept him out of the North Zone team.

Yograj went as far as to say it was because he got along too well with cricket star Sunil Gavaskar, attributing his downfall to that also, going to say “That was the time when I decided-I won’t play cricket, Yuvi will play “.

The former cricketer did not mince words as he attacked the late Bishan Singh Bedi, claiming Bedi, being chief selector, had conspired against him because he was too thick with Gavaskar. “I never forgave Bishan Singh Bedi. The man died on his bed, but when I was dropped, I learned that he didn’t want me on the team,” Yograj said.

But a surprise awaited everybody when Yograj went on to relate how he had teased Kapil Dev after India won the 2011 World Cup, saying his son had done better than Dev in that tournament. “When India won the World Cup, the only one who cried was Kapil Dev. I sent him a cutting, lest he forget my son fared better than him,” he said.

In a dramatic about-turn, Yograj Singh has softened his blows on MS Dhoni, whose shadow he believed hindered Yuvraj’s international career. Now, in this interview, Yograj spoke glowingly about Dhoni’s captaincy and his on-field strategy. “I find Dhoni to be a very motivated captain who can guide players effectively. His ability to read the wicket and advise bowlers is commendable,” Yograj said.

Yograj also remembered Dhoni’s grit when a match was on with Australia: “When Mitchell Johnson hit him on the grill, he didn’t flinch; he stood his ground and hit the next ball for a six. There are very few people like him.”

This is in complete contrast to Yograj’s earlier comments in 2024, where he had promised never to forgive Dhoni for perceived wrongs against his son. “He should look at himself in the mirror. What he did to my son can never be forgiven,” he had asserted then.
