Yuvraj backs Pant over Samson, hopeful of Hardik’s heroics at T20 World Cup.
Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has expressed faith in Rishabh Pant pipping Sanju Samson as the first-choice wicketkeeper in the national T20I side. While acknowledging Samson’s splendid form, Yuvraj stated Pant’s left-handed batting adds vital balance to the line-up besides highlighting the latter’s match-winning exploits.
Despite persistent struggles for India and his IPL franchise, Yuvraj remains optimistic about vice-captain Hardik Pandya delivering something “special” in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
The 2007 hero backed the selectors’ decision, citing Hardik’s international record and expected crucial contributions with both bat and ball.
On India’s batting order, Yuvraj opined for Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal starting as openers. He wants Virat Kohli at number three while terming Suryakumar Yadav as another significant option at four. The ex-cricketer emphasized the difficulty opponents face tackling different combinations.
Yuvraj also reckoned Shivam Dube cemented his place meritoriously but felt that reserves Rinku Singh and Shubman Gill were missing out on the main squad.
Rohit will lead a strong 15-member Indian contingent and four standbys who will travel under his leadership for the T20 extravaganza starting June 1 in the West Indies and the USA.
