The 18-year-old student found dead in Kota hostel bathroom

Police reported on Tuesday about unidentified reasons that caused the death of a coaching institute student of 18 years in the hostel bathroom in Kota.

The hostel’s steward informed the police, and they collected the evidence. However, they did not register a First Information Report (FIR) at the insistence of the teen’s parents. The family also refused to consent to an autopsy as requested by the police, which subsequently returned the corpse for burial rites.

The deceased has been named Kushagra Rastogi, from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. He started living in the hostel in Jawahar Nagar with his mother after joining a local coaching center in April to prepare for engineering admissions.

One morning, Rastogi woke up and got up to use the washroom, but his mother knocked on the door when he did not come out for 15-20minutes. When she did not find it locked, she found him lying on the floor unconscious. He was taken to a nearby hospital where a resuscitation attempt, which involved CPR, was done on him, but the hospital staff confirmed he was dead.

Upon learning that the family had declined to have a postmortem conducted on the boy, the police said that there would be no further action taken in the matter.
