On Monday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma distributed appointment letters to 385 youngsters in the health and education sectors and declared that the government had already surpassed its election commitments.
Sarma announced at the official function that the new appointments bring the total number of government jobs provided since he came to office in May 2021 to an unprecedented 125,030. “Our government had long back fulfilled the election promise of providing one lakh jobs. No government in Assam’s history has ever provided such a large number of jobs in such a transparent and efficient way,” he said.
During the election campaign in the 2021 assembly, the BJP had promised to provide one lakh government jobs every year but later explained that one lakh was for the whole five-year term. The Chief Minister added that efforts are on to fill about 35,000 more posts and hoped the total number of recruits would be 150,000 by May 2025.
Sarma said the health, education, and police departments have recorded the highest recruitments in the last three years. Of 385 newly recruited people, 284 joined the Education Department, while 101 were inducted into the Health and Family Welfare Department.
