CBI to Investigate IAS aspirants’ deaths, files case against CEO”

CBI on Wednesday Pratively Seized itself of the investigation into the death of three IAS aspirants by drowning in the basement of a coaching center located in old Rajender Nagar, Delhi.

The probe agency has registered a case under Section 304 Part II of the IPC and sections of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, causing death by negligence, voluntary causing hurt, negligent conduct with regard to the pulling down, repair, or construction of buildings, and the common intention. Till date, CBI has charged only one accused in the case.

The displeasure was caused by three students who had died after the basement of the IAS training academy in Old Rajender Nagar was flooded on July 27. The Rau’s IAS Study Circle has said it would give Rs 50 lakh each to the kin of the three aspirants who drowned in the basement of a building at Rau when rainwater filled it.

Delhi Police had arrested the academy’s owner and CEO, Abhishek Gupta, and the coordinator, Deshpal Singh, on July 28 this year. Both of them were taken to a magistrate court, and after serving their statement, they were remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.

The MC, Delhi, closed 25 basements running commercial establishments like coaching, offices, and other license areas in Delhi from 28th July to 31st July. The action was taken against establishments in the areas situated in central Delhi Rajinder Nagar and west Delhi Patel Nagar and Ranjeet Nagar localities, as the report stated.
