Delhi govt orders special audit of 12 DU colleges over financial issues

The Delhi government has ordered a special audit of 12 DU colleges fully funded by it following allegations of financial misappropriation flagged by Chief Minister Atishi.

The Directorate of Audit assigned an eight-member team for the special audit after a high-level committee submitted a status report.

In an order last week, the audit department instructed the secretary of the Directorate of Higher Education to issue directions to the colleges to make all records available to the audit team.

“I am directed to convey the approval of a Competent Authority for conducting a Special Audit on the examination of issues related to 12 colleges (fully funded by the Delhi Government) affiliated with the University of Delhi, as per the status Report of the High-Level Committee,” read the order dated September 27.

It further ordered that the said colleges provide the audit team with all records, sitting arrangements, and secretarial assistance.

In a joint meeting of the Academic Council, AC, and Executive Council, EC, DU unanimously accepted last month the findings of the 10-member committee that probed the allegations.

The committee reported that no financial anomaly was found in the 12 DU colleges, as Atishi mentioned.

In this regard, the university stated that it would urge the state government to consider the committee’s recommendations and demand that Atishi withdraw her letter to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, in which she suggested de-affiliation of the 12 DU colleges.
