India’s AI University appoints global strategist as Vice-chancellor

Universal AI University (UAIU), India’s prominent University focused on Artificial Intelligence, has announced the appointment of Professor Simon Mak, a distinguished internationalist strategist and an illustrious faculty member, as its first vice-chancellor. This paved the way for Mak as the first foreign national to lead an Indian university in such a manner.

Mak, a highly experienced academician with a background in managing startups in Silicon Valley and a research background, will be collaborating with Chancellor Prof Tarundeep Singh Anand to maximize the global reputation of UAIU based on an AI-integrated curriculum while upholding the highest principles of ethical practice in the education sector.

The Chancellor of the University stressed, ‘Drawing from his extensive knowledge of the strategic and entrepreneurial environment, Dr Mak fully understands that UAIU is incomparably special and exceptional, which will produce the best hybrid of multilateral educative stream in Artificial Intelligence for shaping the corporate titans of tomorrow.’

Mak’s educational background demonstrates that she has had formal training as an engineer; she has a B. Tech in Engineering from MIT, an MBA, and a Ph. D. from the SMU Cox School of Business. In particular, his prior position as the executive director of the Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship at SMU Cox entailed him exploring blockchain for the first time.

Getting into the details of Mak’s appointment, the top executive joined Indian higher education institutions at the right time as the sector is shifting towards emerging technology and globalization.

The greatest advantage for UAIU and India will be that he has had broad experience teaching in internationally accredited universities, which will introduce a novelty in the educational curriculum of the university per India’s goal to become a leader in the field of AI education and learning.
