NMC launches portal for registration of MBBS doctors

The National Medical Commission has recently developed a new and highly useful portal for registering MBBS doctors and their eligibility to practice in India, along with generating a new ID for every doctor. This one brings the National Medical Register (NMR), the national registry of doctors’ identities based on Aadhaar IDs.

Addressing the press in Mysore, Dr. B. Srinivas, the Secretary of the NMC, said that the NMR is now open for registration as soon as possible. According to the current rules, every doctor practicing in MBBS currently having his/her registration in IMR has to register in the NMR. The portal connects the medical colleges/Universities, institutions, and state medical councils (SMCs).

For the first step of registration, doctors must provide their Aadhaar ID, a scanned copy of their MBBS degree, and their first registration certificate. The respective SMC will then validate the application before forwarding it to the NMC for final approval, and upon approval, the NMR ID will be generated.

The NMR portal also features the addition of qualifications, application management, and the provision of digital doctor certificates. The launch’s objective is to address the lack of information about the overall number of doctors in the country and the fate of those who have left their jobs or lost their licenses.

The portal was launched by the Union Health Minister, J. P. Nadda, on August 23 to stress the significance of information in the Ind. Close monitoring of the data through the portal became significant in aiding the country’s healthcare system.
