NTA releases schedule for UGC NET December 2024 exam

The National Testing Agency has announced the schedule for the University Grants Commission – National Eligibility Test, UGC-NET to be held in December 2024. The examination will be held from January 3 to January 16, 2025, in two sessions: the morning session from 9 AM to 12 noon and the afternoon session from 3 PM to 6 PM.

Mode of Examination
UGC NET 2024 shall be conducted as a Computer Based Test (CBT). This test will determine the candidate’s eligibility for the Junior Research Fellowship, Assistant Professors, and also for PhD admissions.

Exam Pattern
The question paper consists of two papers:

Paper 1:

Marks: 100
Questions: 50
Type: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
Focus: Tests teaching/research aptitude, reasoning ability, comprehension, and general awareness.

Paper 2:

Marks: 200
Questions: 100
Type: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
Focus: Assesses subject-specific knowledge in the candidate’s chosen field.

Total Duration
The total duration of the exam is 3 hours (180 minutes) without breaks, and all questions are mandatory.

Medium of Question Paper
Question papers while filling up the online application form. No request for change in the medium will be entertained subsequently. In case of any discrepancy in the question paper due to wrong/mismatch translation etc., the English version will be treated as final.

Scheme of Marking
There are 2 marks for each question.
There is no negative marking for wrong/doubtful answer
Unattempted questions carry no marks.
If there is an incorrect or ambiguous question, marks will be given only to those who attempted it and chose the correct option.
In case of any dropped question due to error, candidates who attempted it will get 2 marks.

Age Limit and Relaxation
Junior Research Fellowship (JRF):
Age should not be more than 30 years as on January 1, 2025.
Relaxation up to 5 years is given to applicants from OBC-NCL, SC/ST, PwD and third gender category, Women applicants.
Extra relaxation is there for those having research experiences and also for the holder of an LLM degree along with provisions for the armed forces personnel as per the length of service.

Assistant Professor:

Upper age limit is none.
PhD Admission:

Upper Age Limit for PhD Admission No upper age limit for seeking admission in PhD programs.
Previous Year Cut-Offs (UGC NET June 2024)
Cut-off marks for the UGC NET June 2024 differ for different subjects and different categories. For detailed information about the subject-wise and category-wise cut-offs, candidates may visit the official website for previous years.
