Actions have been enacted by the Odisha state government to handle the state, which is subjected to a severe heatwave. The authorities have suspended the session of the summer school program, and all the schools are going to close from the 25th of April. Additionally, to protect students from extreme heat, the government has announced a change in school timings from April 22 to 24, with classes running from 6:30 am up to 10:30 am.
The state government resorted to this decision following a severe heatwave on Saturday, which was accompanied by temperatures climbed above 43 Degrees Celsius in ten sites, as per the India Meteorological Department. The cities of Boudh and Baripada have reached the extreme on the thermometer that the temperature hit 45.2º Celsius.
As per the weather department, there is the possibility of the occurrence of one or two separate regions within the state of Odisha facing the extremely hot conditions around 21 and 22 April As a precautionary measure, it has issued an alert code of ‘orange’ that heatwave to severe heat wave is more likely in the specific areas such as Bryan, Ainslie, wangi wangi, port, and slot district on Sunday.
This morning, the 1st of May, Odisha sadistically reported the very first sunstroke death of the season; he was 62 and from Maheshpur, Balasore district. April 15 was his date of death. Consequently, authorities were triggered to consider additional measures to protect the public’s welfare against the hazards of the heatwave.
