Tata trust offers scholarships for Indian students at Cornell

Most students who wish to attend foreign universities for further education encounter many problems, including problems finding financing. The Tata Education and Development Trust is a philanthropic trust of Tata Group purposed to ease the burden for deserving students seeking to study abroad. The trust is endowed with approximately $25 million to provide financial assistance for undergraduate students in India to attend Cornell University.

Ratan Tata is the former Tata Group and Tata Sons chairman and one of the more celebrated Cornell alumni. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in architecture. His affiliation with higher learning extends to serving ex officio on a trust.

The Tata Trust annually funds approximately 20 well-qualified scholars; scholarships are awarded for undergraduate study at Cornell. Funding, however, is provided for a maximum of eight semesters for all programs except the five-year architecture program, which requires ten semesters of full-time enrollment. No additional funding is provided for double majors or dual degrees.

The Tata Scholarship highly selects recipients who are admitted students to the following programs, in particular:

  • College of Architecture, Art, and Planning
  • College of Engineering
  • Applied Economics and Management major within the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business
  • All majors in biological sciences, physical sciences, and social sciences

Application Process:
As stated on the website, undergraduate applicants seeking the Tata Scholarship must apply for admission and financial aid. All applicants should also submit the CSS Profile to be considered for financial assistance in any configuration.
