The University of Delhi has issued an alert over a fake notification circulated in the name of the varsity. The varsity clarifies that the announcement of a winter break from November 19 to 27, 2024, due to air pollution, is baseless.
The misleading notice mentioned that the winter break was introduced to assess the acute problem of deterioration in air quality and to implement the GRAP-IV measures in Delhi. It said, “In order to tide over the prevailing environmental pollution caused by Severe Air Quality, it has been decided to declare 19.11.2024 to 27.11.2024 as winter break for the university and its colleges. However, all prescheduled examinations and interviews will be held without any change in schedule. This is issued with the approval of the Competent Authority.”
The University of Delhi has shifted all its classes online as a precautionary measure amid Delhi and the National Capital Region recording deteriorating air quality for quite some time. This will remain in effect until Saturday, November 23, 2024, keeping in mind the health and safety of the students.
It is thus expected that regular physical classes will resume on Monday, November 25, 2024. The university further clarified that the schedules for examinations and interviews shall go according to schedule, reiterating that this decision has been made with the best interest of the student community in mind and with the approval of the Competent Authority.
