Five teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were deployed on Tuesday to evacuate marooned people with the help of coracles in the country’s IT capital.
Many areas in and around Yelahanka were flooded, said PTI.
As per the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, 157 mm of rain has lashed Yelahanka for six hours from Tuesday midnight to Tuesday 6 am. Kendriya Vihar in Yelahanka was a river with water swirling up to waist height.
Rescue workers pulled people to safety with a coracle. All normal life came to a grinding halt in North Bengaluru due to waterlogging.
People preferred staying indoors, and many passengers missed flights, trains, and buses. Children could not go to school in flooded areas, and many houses in low-lying areas and near lakes were inundated.
