10-month-old girl raped in Bharuch; Accused arrested

In a most tragic incident, a 10-month-old girl was raped by a 30-year-old neighborhood man in Bharuch, Gujarat, on Sunday. The accused allegedly lured the infant into his home when she was at play with her grandmother.

According to the police, the man from Panoli village came to the girl and promised wafers. He took her some distance away from home and assaulted her, according to the report. Deputy Superintendent of Police Kushal Oza has confirmed that the grandmother heard the cry and came running to find the child bleeding due to injuries to her private parts.

The child was immediately taken to Bharuch civil hospital for treatment. Following the incident, the police registered a case of rape and sexual assault under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The accused was subsequently arrested.

Outraged by the crime, the people caught the accused and surrendered him to the police. According to reports, the accused was a close friend of the infant’s parents and regularly visited their place to play with the baby.

The infant’s mother, who was working as a waitress in a restaurant, took her to the hospital. Doctors said the condition of the infant deteriorated due to the severity of the injuries caused by repeated rape and bleeding excessively.

Legal proceedings have begun, and the suspect is expected to be brought before the magistrate any time now.
