13-year-old girl allegedly trafficked and assaulted in Lucknow

Ranchi-based 13-year-old girl who was trafficked to Lucknow was raped by a truck driver, and she was thrown on the roadside. The police laid down on Monday that two people have been detained in connection with the case, which was reported at the Tamar police station after the girl’s family reported a missing person.

The girl disappeared on August 16 when she did not come back home as expected, given that she had gone to school. Her family raised an alarm, which resulted in an investigation. According to the police version, she was picked up by a young man known to her from the Bundu bus stand, and another person ferried her to Patna.

During the police interrogation, the girl said that the second youth left her in a truck in Patna, where the driver reportedly sexually abused her before dumping her in Lucknow.

Pursuant to the First Information Report lodged on Sunday, the police arrested the two youthful suspects. However, authorities pointed out that there are still some discrepancies in the girl’s statement that should be explained.

They are booked under relevant sections that deal with rape, human trafficking, and the protection of children below eighteen from sexual offenses belonging to POCSO. Deputy Superintendent of Police Rati Bhan Singh further said that an investigation is ongoing, and a medical examination of the injured has also been conducted.

According to child rights activist Baidyanath Kumar, who has been following the case, the girl had been ‘sold’ to the truck driver in Patna. He also stated the fact that the girl was found by the local police in Lucknow on August 20, and the girl was shifted to a care center, which did not require an FIR to be registered at that time.

After some persuasion, the girl was finally persuaded to file an FIR about her ordeal, which was filed on Sunday.
