Over 320 citizens who fled to Jordan from Israel reached New Delhi on Tuesday. Two-thousand two-hundred and ninety-five Indians have been evacuated from Iran during the West Asia conflict, the Ministry of External Affairs reported on Tuesday.
Two hundred and ninety-two Indian nationals arrived in New Delhi on a special flight from the Iranian city of Mashhad at 3.30 am on Tuesday as part of Operation Sindhu, the ministry’s spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.
Another flight carrying 290 Indians and a single Sri Lankan citizen had also arrived in New Delhi from Mashhad at 7.15 pm on Monday. The initial evacuation flight landed in New Delhi on Thursday. This was followed by multiple special flights.
A batch of 161 Indian nationals evacuated from Israel landed in New Delhi on a special flight on Tuesday morning. Independently, an Indian Air Force plane on Tuesday morning returned to New Delhi with 165 Indians evacuated from Israel. The two flights came from Amman, the Jordanian capital.
The initial group of 160 individuals had departed Israel for Jordan on Sunday, PTI said. The second group of 443 Indians was evacuated from Israel on Monday via the nation’s borders with Egypt and Jordan, the news agency said.
The most recent phase of hostilities between Israel and Iran began on June 13 when the Israeli military attacked what it said were nuclear facilities, and also other locations, in Iran to slow down Tehran’s nuclear program. Iran had hit back with missile strikes against Israel.
