9-year-old girl dies, 3 hurt in Mumbai water tank burst

The Aashray Yojana Cell of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation built the temporary tank to build SWM staff quarters. Mumbai:  A nine-year-old girl died, and three others, among them a minor, were injured on Wednesday evening as a Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) water tank burst in BMC staff colony in the Nagpada area of Mumbai, officials said.

It has installed the temporary tank for the construction of SWM staff quarters by the Aashray Yojana Cell of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. Four injured, including two minors, were rushed to a nearby Faujiya hospital. A nine-year-old girl was declared dead, and three others are in stable condition, said the official.

“All the injured and the deceased were contractor staff,” he said, adding that water pressure was the prima facie cause behind the incident. The girl who died has been identified as Khushi Khatun (9), and the injured persons are identified as Gulam Rasul (32), Miraj Khatun (9), and Najranabibi (33), the official added.
